Fresh air is something that we take for granted.

But if you have a health condition where fresh air is a necessity – you would be more conscious of the air you breathe, wouldn’t you? And what step would you take to make sure you were breathing fresh air?

The answer is simple – you would make sure you have an air purifier.

What is an air purifier, you ask? An air purifier is a machine that removes contaminants, which includes but is not limited to: dust, allergens, pet dander, and second-hand smoke. It removes these contaminants by filtering (or cleaning) the air as it runs through the purifier.

Air purifiers are very beneficial to one’s health. As aforementioned, it removes contaminants from the air which results in cleaner air. Breathing this cleaner air helps reduce certain sicknesses and health problems such as allergies, asthma, cold/flu symptoms, and skin sensitivities. Some air purifiers even kill viruses, bacteria, and mold spores that may linger in the air. Last but not least, second-hand smoke is the biggest health problem that an air purifier can help with. It can trap the smoke particles and the odor before it spreads. You would be surprised to hear that even unpleasant odors can add to a home’s pollutants which subsequently adds to more germs and illnesses. Having said that, one more aspect that an air purifier has is eliminating these unpleasant odors.

Generally speaking, there are three kinds of air purifiers – household, portable, and commercial. The household purifier can work on eliminating the whole house of its pollutants. The portable air purifier is essential because you can take it with you wherever you go, as well as its use in the house; however, it can only purify one room at a time. Not even the best portable AC unit can do that. The commercial air purifier is probably the most important and effective kind of purifier because there is a wider range of pollutants in a public building. A commercial air purifier is installed into the HVAC systems so it can clean and cool the whole building. An air purifier however cannot be installed in even the best window air conditioner.

Many people get air conditioners and air purifiers confused. Air conditioners filter very little contaminants. In no way can the best window air conditioner or the best portable AC unit measure up to the effectiveness of any of the air purifiers – and there are many types.
